North Port is growing fast and the BBQ scene is growing with it. Here's an honest 2026 guide to smoked meat in North Port — including why we're proud to call it home.
North Port: Bigger Than You Think
Most people who don't live here think of North Port as a satellite of Sarasota or Port Charlotte — a bedroom community without its own identity. The people who live here know differently. North Port is the largest city by land area in Florida and the largest city in Sarasota County by population. Its growth rate over the last decade has been among the highest in the state, and with that growth has come a food scene that's finally catching up to the community's size.
BBQ is part of that story. As the new Wellen Park development fills in, as the business corridors along Tamiami Trail expand, and as thousands of new residents bring their food cultures and their appetites to the area, the demand for excellent, authentic smoked meat has never been higher.
We opened BBQ Art Co. in North Port because we believe in this community and because we identified a genuine gap: the kind of artisan, thoughtful BBQ that uses real hardwoods, real technique, and real craft was not consistently represented here. We wanted to fix that.
What Sets BBQ Apart in North Port's Context
Southwest Florida BBQ exists in a particular climate and cultural context that shapes what works. The heat and humidity affect wood selection — our approach to hardwoods accounts for Florida's high ambient moisture in wood storage and fire management. The local produce — Florida citrus, local jalapeños, vegetables from regional farms — influences our sides and sauces in ways that a transplanted Texas recipe wouldn't anticipate.
The population of North Port is itself diverse: retirees from the Midwest and Northeast, working families, a growing younger demographic drawn by housing affordability. This diversity means BBQ needs to be broadly accessible — familiar enough for guests who know the category, interesting enough for guests who want something more.
Our menu navigates this with a core of classics (brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken wings) executed at the highest technical level we know how to achieve, alongside sides that have Florida personality without being gimmicky.
The Wellen Park Context
Wellen Park, the massive master-planned community being developed in the south of North Port, has transformed the eastern edge of the city into one of the most active food and entertainment destinations in Sarasota County. The CoolToday Park district and the development around Downtown Wellen have brought a concentrated dining audience that previously wasn't here.
We've served Wellen Park events, corporate gatherings at CoolToday Park, and residential community events throughout the development. The audience is sophisticated, the expectations are high, and the appetite for quality food at outdoor gatherings is genuine. If you're in the Wellen Park area and looking for BBQ catering for your event, reach out through our catering page — we know the area well.
Where to Find BBQ Art Co.
We operate as a mobile food truck and catering operation, which means our schedule varies. The best ways to find us:
Check our schedule page — we post our regular truck locations and any event appearances at least a week in advance. Public parks, business parks, and community events in North Port are our regular rotation.
Book catering — if you want us at your location for a private or public event, request a catering quote and we'll work out the details. This is how many of our regulars experience us — they brought us to an event, loved it, and have been following us since.
Instagram — @bbqartco is where same-day location updates appear. If we're at a spot, that's where you'll hear about it first.
What to Order on Your First Visit
If you've never had BBQ Art Co. before, here's what to get:
The brisket. This is the centerpiece of everything we do. Our smoke-then-sous-vide method produces brisket that is simultaneously deeply smoky, properly barked, and tenderly moist. Get a pound and split the flat and the point. Notice the smoke ring. Taste it without sauce first.
The wings. Our organic smoked chicken wings are different from any wings you've had elsewhere in North Port. Ninety minutes of hickory smoke, sous vide finish for texture and safety, high-heat crisp before service. They're a complete argument for why sourcing and technique matter at every price point. See the full wings on our menu.
The Russian coleslaw. Not your grandmother's coleslaw. Vinaigrette-dressed, fresh dill, shredded beets. It changes what you think a BBQ side can be.
North Port BBQ Culture Is Growing
The community that's forming in North Port has a genuine appreciation for food — not just convenient food, but food that reflects craft and intentionality. We see it at every event we work: guests who want to know about the wood we use, the cutting method, the sauce options. Questions that wouldn't have been common a decade ago from a Southwest Florida BBQ audience are now the norm.
That curiosity is fuel for us. Every question about our technique is an opportunity to share what we love about this craft. Every guest who leaves having learned something about why their brisket tastes the way it does is a guest who will bring more appreciation to their next bite.
Ready to Try It?

North Port deserves excellent BBQ, and we're here to provide it.
